Lettre autographe signée de Gloria SWANSON adressée le 5 juillet 1957 à un certain "Dear John" et complétée d'un post scriptum autographe signé de sa fille Michelle. 3 pp rédigées au stylo bille bleu sur papier à son en-tête. Elle remercie son correspondant de lui avoir envoyé un posemètre :

"Thanks for sending the light meter on. Now I can send you some photographs of the family - especially the children, and the ground of the chateau."

Après avoir demandé un service à son correspondant et parlé du temps extrêmement chaud et lourd qu'il fait, d'après elle probablement à cause d'une éruption solaire, elle devient lyrique en évoquant l'endroit où elle se trouve :

"Even so, this place is heaven. Last evening I went to bed before midnight in a lovely large room with three french windows open. Stars, a half moon were like paintings in each, and the various fragrances from the surrounding forests pleased my sensitive long nose as the various birds did my large ears with their very own symphony. I don't remember having such a relaxed and happy time - something that can't be found in a drug store. No sleeping or happy pills are needed here."

Gloria SWANSON termine par ce conseil avisé à son correspondant :

"And remember don't wait until your are old and decrepit before you start living."

Sa fille Michelle, alors agée de 25 ans, ajoute ce post scriptum teinté d'ironie :

"PS : I've given up chewing gum, Do you remember ? My love to you all. Michelle"

Gloria Swanson, de son nom de naissance Gloria Josephine Mae Svensson, née le 27 mars 1899 à Chicago et morte le 4 avril 1983, était une actrice américaine. Elle fut l'une des toutes premières grandes stars d'Hollywood mais également une icône de la mode des années 20.

Michelle FARMER

Née le 5 avril 1932 du mariage en 1931 de Gloria Swanson avec Michael Farmer, dont Gloria divorce en 1934.
